I liked Heart-shaped Box a lot but for some reason it didn't necessarily make me want to read other books by Joe Hill. Then, maybe a year ago, my boyfriend said Horns seemed like a good movie and hey, why don't we watch it? I generally don't watch adaptations before I read the original, but to be honest I was curious to see Daniel Radcliffe being someone other than Harry Potter (I'm always curious about that... Still haven't reached a verdict though), so I watched it... And I really loved the story!!! It took me months to get around to read the book because I had other priorities, but I knew I would love it. It's really good when a book gets into your read and makes you think about it all the time, wishing you could stop working just to read a bit more. I also feel like Horns is more meaty than Heart-shaped Box, it has more substance.
Sometimes I would read a passage and think "if this were a King story, this and that would happen... Let's see how the son behaves" haha. You know I'm completely obsessed with King, but I don't care much for the monsters and aliens in some of his works. I like better when he focus on the humanity of his characters, and that's why I loved Horns so much. Some would disagree if I said there's nothing supernatural about the story - Lucifer is in the book after all - but the plot is so centered in Iggy and his relationships that it's like all that could happen to me or to someone I know. In other words, the story feels real. That's usually what I look for in a book.
Oh, I definitely wouldn't go around touching people if I could see their secrets like Ig could. I prefer not knowing things, thank you very much! And Lee is an absolute disgusting piece of shit, Jesus Christ! Sometimes I wanted to get inside the book and yell at Ig for being so nice to him.
Anyway, five out of five ⭐s for me. I loved the dark humor, I loved the more disturbing, gore bits. I can't wait to read NOS4A2! 🤓 #horns #joehill #horror fan #horror #horror stories #bookstagram #fridayreads #lucifer
