Our Gallery is a light volume floating over the ground, freely following the shape of the Moravian Gallery´s historical building and keeping one of it´s beautiful historical facades visible. It is connected to the buildings on the other side so it follows the line of the street. This placement created a nice square in front of the gallery which will serve as the gathering place for visitors of the gallery and a representative space in front of its entrance. We kept the park in the back of the gallery but considering the rather neglected state our proposal includes revitalization of the greenery.
We created the gallery as light as possible so we used semipermeable glass panels with lamellas on the southern side to enable the controlling of the light entering the gallery and a perforated metal sheet on the main northern facade.
Our proposal tries to bring more functions to the traditional gallery concept. We want to engage artists themselves to be part of the gallery therefore we included studios for artists and a workshop for them which can also be used for art classes for children.
The interior follows the concept of the long block as it contains long and narrow galleries which are adjustable as the paintings can hang on modular panels and other objects such as statues or installations can be situated freely in the space. The old building is connected via a bridge which enters the café to give visitors time to adjust to different content in the old, historical building and in the contemporary art gallery.
